Description: I use Post-it® Notes to write our sight words on. I start with one and keep adding as my students are able to read them. These notes are stuck to my classroom door and each child must read the "passwords" to enter each morning. By listening how well each other read, it motivates everyone into being able to read all the words. These words are then used to "write the room" during our center time. Later in the year, the words can be moved to make sentences for everyone to read. The children love to change the sentences to surprise each other.

Description: I work with English Language Learner and one of the most important lessons that I teach them is position words. After spending time teaching them words such as up, down, around, over, under, etc., a fun learning activity to do is the "Sticky Scavenger Hunt." I will write short notes on the Post-it® Notes, such as "under the red table", and actually stick the next Post-it® under the table. The students have a great time collecting the sticky notes and finding their final destination. As an extension, I put the students in groups and they make their own Sticky Scavenger Hunt. The students enjoy being able to follow the clues themselves and find their surprise at the end!

Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

Description: Write a different Kindergarten sight word on a Post-it® Note, making sure to have enough for each student. Stick one on the shirt of each child. Call out sight words one at a time and have the student with that word stand up. Once each student has had a chance to stand up, call out a word and have the student who is wearing that word come up to the front of the room. Call out another and have him/her stand next to the first child. Repeat these steps until there is a sentence for the class to read (Ex. You can do it). Next, add other words to new Post -t® Notes that the children have to sound out (Ex. pet) and make new sentences (Ex. I have a pet.)
