Description: During ANY subject, a great way to get a brief overall knowledge of how well my students are understanding a concept, I ask a question, have the students write their answers on a sticky note and stick it on their foreheads and I take a look. This can work in a number of ways. I can ask the younger students, what is 2X2 and expect the number 4 to be written quickly on a post-it. I take a brief look and see who knows this. The students are facing me, so the other students are not looking around and intimidated. I also have used different colored notes during lectures and asked, who understands? We then use bright green for I totally understand, bright yellow for slow down, I don't get it, and bright pink for, I don't get it at all.

Estimated Time: 20-30 minutes
Description: In order to encourage my students to do their best work AND to promote actively thinking about TONE when writing POETRY, I provide a variety of sizes, colors, shapes, and designs of Post-its for them to write their fiinal drafts on. They can then go directly to the appropriate bulletin board and post their work. These promote ease of sharing and fun of choosing from your array of bright, funny, serious, plain stickies; some students get creative in their use of stanza by using several different notes to create their own color patterns or shapes!!
