Description: Post-it notes are distributed to each student. They record the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of being an AMERICAN !!! (They also illustrate a small picture to further emphasize their choice) I post these, accompanied by U.S. flags, of course, on my door as an incredible tribute. (I've used for Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Election Day, 911, etc.) A student example: "I am proud to be an American because we have soldiers fighting for us who don't even KNOW us!" PROFOUND!!

Estimated Time: 0-10 minutes

Description: The kids make giant butcher paper replicas of themselves that are displayed in the hallway during the school year. Then they look for ways that one of their classmates has been kind to them so that they can write a Post-it note thanking them for what their friend did. As the school year progresses, the kids collect Post-it thank you notes on their pictures.

Estimated Time: 40-50 minutes

Description: Students draw a scene, or a picture of a selected theme. I teach students about nouns and adjectives. Then with pictures displayed, all students walk around with a pad of sticky notes. They write one or more words on a sticky and put it on or by the picture. After everyone has left a sticky on all the pictures, each student collects their picture with all the sticky notes. They rearrange their sticky notes to form a poem.

Estimated Time: 0-10 minutes

Description: Students are assigned a topic of the day. Each takes a Post-it® and writes a word that is part of the "vocabulary tapestry" pertinent that topic. On the back of the Post-it, they write a brief definition, researched from the dictionary. Each student then posts the words on a large square designated area. Students form two teams, taking turns to guess the definitions of each word, using context clues, word origin clues, roots, prefixes, etc. The team with the highest score as the Post-its are removed, wins the game.
