Description:
Set up a great interactive bulletin board that will engage your students in reading using Post-it® Notes! As students find a great book, they can write the title and author on a Post-it to recommend to their classmates on a special bulletin board.
Instructions:
Step 1: The board can be divided into a fiction and non-fiction side. Different genres could be on different colored Post-it notes. Advanced students could use larger Post-it notes to write a brief synopsis of the book; younger students could draw a small illustration!
Step 2: Get creative with your backdrops and bulletin board themes. Fabrics and 3-d materials could make your bulletin board pop! Incorporate your board into your classroom theme, or change the theme seasonally!
Step 3: In addition to the interactive board, an individual peer recommendation station could be a great addition to your room. Students could write a recommendation on a Post-it note and deliver it straight to the recipients' cubby/mailbox/locker.
Step 4: Sit back and enjoy your enthusiastic room full of bookworms!
Afterwards:
Objective: Create a classroom community of enthusiastic readers that make connections from with the texts.
Assignment/Home Connection: Send home a nightly reading log. When students reach a monthly goal, they can attend a special lunch in the classroom with the teacher.
