Description:
Copy onto Post-it® Notes to create instant puzzles in any subject area, as well as study guide tools.
Instructions:
Step 1: Line up Post-it® Notes edge to edge, corner to corner in a 7 by 4 grid. Onto a blank sheet of copy paper. All sticky ends should be towards the top of the paper.
Step 2: Insert full sheet of copy paper into copy machine so that the sticky ends go in the direction of the paper intake. Post-it® Note side should be inserted so that it is the side that will be printed on.(If loose ends enter first, they can get jammed in the machine)
Step 3: Using the blackline master of your choice, place it on copy machine glass as you would to make a normal copy and press copy.
Step 4: The image should copy onto the side of the copy paper with the Post-it Notes. This creates a "puzzle" that can be taken apart and again assembled.
Afterwards:
Objective: The Post-it puzzle can serve many purposes that provide a hands on opportunity for students to learn new concepts and skills. This particular Post-it puzzle allows students to assemble a diagram of the inside of a leaf from a book called, \"Super Science Crosswords\" by Katherine Burkett. In order to assemble the puzzle, students must read the information to make sure the information boxes match up while at the same time assembling the diagram correctly.
Lesson Extensions: The uses for Post-it puzzles are endless and can be used for any grade and any subject areas. Possible ideas are: Hide additional information underneat the post it notes as it relates to each piece of the puzzle. Create a graphic organizer on a Post-it note puzzle to be assembled and completed. Use to assemble labeled diagrams. Create a puzzle and leave some pieces out and have students complete the missing parts. Use to make a copy of a story, paragraph, or poem to be assembled. Use your imagination, you can come up with many ideas to use a Post-it puzzle for in any subject area.
Supporting All Learners: The Post-it puzzle provides support or kinesthetc learners and visual learners, as well as a support for students with learning disabilities and ESL students.
Assignment/Home Connection: Post-it® puzzles can be used for at home study and practice of concepts and skills learned in class.
