Description:
Re-write beginning, middle, and endings to familiar stories then use what the children write to create new and interesting stories
Instructions:
Step 1: Divide students into 3 groups (Beginning, Middle, or End), give out a supply of post its to each group. Make sure each group is familiar with the story being changed.
Step 2: Direct each group to write a new beginning, middle or end to the familiar story.
Step 3: They will then place their individual Post-its on the large Post-it paper labeled beginning, middle or end
Step 4: Groups will take turns sharing their part with the whole class.
Step 5: Each individual part can be used to write a totally new story as well.
Step 6: Have students then write one complete story with a different part to present to the class.
Afterwards:
Objective: To assist students in distinguishing the different parts of a story and to encourage creative writing skills
Lesson Extensions: Each group story can be placed into a class book, each post-it could be used throughout the year as a story starter for future writings.
Supporting All Learners: Dividing students into 3 small groups allows all students to be successful and to learn from their peers as well as build individual confidence.
Assignment/Home Connection: Students will take a few small Post-its home and have their parents write a beginning, middle, or ending to a familiar story, these will be shared with the class as a game to see if the class can guess the original story.
