Materials Needed: Post-it® Notes 1 1/2 x 2, Canary Yellow (653), Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 3 x 3, Neon 6 Pads (654-6SSAN), Post-it® Specialty Die Cut Notes, Heart Shapes (7350-HRT), Post-it® Kids Notes, Sight Word Notes (562-SWN)

Materials Needed:

  • Post-it® Notes 1 1/2 x 2
  • Canary Yellow (653)
  • Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 3 x 3
  • Neon 6 Pads (654-6SSAN)
  • Post-it® Specialty Die Cut Notes
  • Heart Shapes (7350-HRT)
  • Post-it® Kids Notes
  • Sight Word Notes (562-SWN)

Description:

Using sticky notes have students write a number between 1 and 100. Next have students arrange their notes from least to greatest on the board. For upper levels use higher numbers or have the children write an number sentence and then put them in order from least to greatest depending on the answer.

Instructions:

Step 1: Each student will have a 3x3 sticky note at their desk. Ask them to write a number or number sentence on the sticky note.

Step 2: Call 3 students up to the board and have them put their notes in order from least to greatest. Continue until all have placed their stickies on the board.

Step 3: Discuss if all notes have been placed correctly. If some notes are number sentences, solve the problems to see if they were placed in the correct order.

Step 4: Review and concept to check for understanding.

Afterwards:

Objective: Students will be introduced to and practice number sequencing, problem solving, place value, and cardinality.

Lesson Extensions: Reverse the sequence from greatest to least. Use it when doing fractions or decimals to represent least to greatest amounts. Write time in a.m. and p.m. and sequence time of day.

Supporting All Learners: All students can participate at their individual level. If students are higher they can write a problem to solve and them figure out where to place it on the number line. If students are lower they can use a number to place in the correct place value.

Assignment/Home Connection: Students can practice at home using mini stickies. They can number them and practice putting them in order forward and backward. Then they can use them for skip counting. Have Mom or Dad pick out a few numbers and put them in order.
