Description:

This activity will help students easily understand how to cite sources using MLA format.

Instructions:

Step 1: Teachers must first teach how to cite various sources using MLA format so students have a baseline reference.

Step 2: Teacher compiles a list of sources that students will practice citing. The teacher is to use the larger size Post its and write each element of the source on different Post its. The smaller size Post its are used for punctuation marks.

Step 3: In groups or individually, students are to manipulate the Post its until the source is cited correctly in MLA format. This can be done for practice and for competition.

Step 4: As an added twist, the teacher can create fictional sources that correspond to holidays. For example, Freddy Krueger can have written the book How to Count to Ten. Or, the teacher can use the students\' names and create sources that correspond to activities the student participates in or that relate to their personalities.

Afterwards:

Objective: The educational goal is for students to learn the correct way to cite sources using MLA format while having fun.

Supporting All Learners: Since this can be done as a group, students are able to help each other. Also, students can be given an MLA format \"cheat sheet\" to use as a guide.
