Description:

Give each child 4 post it notes. Students write a vocabulary word on the outside of the post-it. When they flip up the post-it note, they write the definition or draw a picture of the vocabulary word. We did this for math and science vocabulary words and put it in student’s journals.

Instructions:

Step 1: Put 4 post it notes on paper.

Step 2: Write 1 vocabulary word on each post it note.

Step 3: Flip the post it note up and write the word's definition or draw a picture.

Step 4: Share with friend or class.

Afterwards:

Objective: Vocabulary development

Lesson Extensions: Students can take off the post-it notes and test a friend to see if he/she can match vocabulary word(post-it) to definition.

Supporting All Learners: Students can write own definition, definition from a study guide, definition from a dictionary or textbook. Students can also illustrate definition.

Assignment/Home Connection: Students can take vocabulary flip page home as a study aid/review.
