Estimated Time: 20-30 minutes

Materials Needed: Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 3 x 3, book, pencil

Materials Needed:

  • Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 3 x 3
  • book
  • pencil

Description:

We use Post-it® notes in our Reading AIS classes to make notes while we are reading a novel or story over several weeks. Students make a prediction, ask a question, make an inference, draw a conclusion, or evaluate what they have read on each Post-it note. We do this at intervals throughout the book. The Post-it notes remain in the book on the page we are referring to so that later on in the book we can go back and re-evaluate our prediction, answer our question, etc.

Instructions:

Step 1: Select the book or story your class will be reading

Step 2: Prepare in advance places (chapters?) you would like to stop as a group. Have students use their post-it note to make a prediction (or utilize another reading strategy like ask a question, make an inference, list the characters, summarize, evaluate, etc) and place the post it on that page. Then continue reading the next day and use a post-it for another strategy, or to update the previous one.

Afterwards:
