Measuring up to the Digestive System

Materials Needed: Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 3 x 3, Ultra Colors 6 Pads (654-6SSAU), Pencil or crayon, scissor, ruler, tape

Description:

This activity helps students to learn the length of the digestive system.

Instructions:

Step 1: Divide the class into four or five groups. Each group will be assigned a corner of the classroom to work.

Step 2: The teacher displays a picture and the measurements of each part of the digestive system on the board or smart board.

Step 3: Tell the students they will measure and label the average digestive system using a five colored pad Post-it® Notes. The teacher will review the parts of the digestive system and pass five different color pads of the Post-it® Notes.

Step 4: Each group will connect the Post-it Notes and masking tape to represent each part of the digestive system. ( Use ruler & scissor to cut Post-it Notes)

Step 5: The students will use masking tape or string to represent an uncoiled intestine by using a labeled Post-it Notes in the front and end of the small and large intestine.

Step 6: The first group to measure the entire length of the digestive system and record the results is the winner. How many inches? Feet? Yards?
