  • Pencil or crayon

Description:

This is a fun activity to recognize, create, copy and extend shape patterns using Post-it® Notes.

Instructions:

Step 1: Tell students they are going to draw shapes on ten Post-it Notes. Each pair will have a color pad of Post-it Notes. The students will draw shapes using: squares, triangles or circles on their Post-it Notes.

Step 2: Each partner will draw a pattern train using 10 Post-it Notes. Tell one student to make a pattern train while the other closes their eyes. The partner will cover the last 5 Post-it Notes pattern by placing blank Post-it Notes on the top.

Step 3: The student tells his partner to open his eyes and look at the pattern.

Step 4: The partner will predict the pattern by drawing shapeson the blank Post-it Notes to figure out what comes next in the pattern.

Step 5: The partner will lift his partners Post-it Notes to reveal the rest of his pattern. The student can see if they were right.

Step 6: They switch roles so each student can make a pattern while the other predicts.
