Description:
Students use Post-it® Notes as a tool to help them think about their thinking while reading. They may use the notes to identify specific traits that characters have, character behaviors, or actions. They may use the Post-it Notes to ask questions, identify unknown vocabulary, identify when they are stuck or confused when reading.
Instructions:
Step 1: As you are reading, use your Post-it Notes to identify any "I wonders" or questions you might have. Questions or "I wonders" might relate to characters in the story, the plot or action that is taking place, or any aspect of the story that you might not be sure about.
Step 2: After you have completed a chapter, take a moment to stop, go back and revisit your Post-it Notes questions or "I wonders." Stop and jot in your readers notebook any questions that or I wonders" that remain unanswered. Are these questions that might be answered by reading further? Are these questions that will require further research to answer? Are these questions that can't be answered, but only considered or speculated about?
Step 3: At the end of class, transfer Post-it Notes to your readers notebook and write a short reflection on your thinking for the day.
