Description:
Students (or teachers) utilize Post-it® Notes to provide feedback in the writing process and to acknowledge revisions.
Instructions:
Step 1: Each Student (including the teacher) is assigned one color (style) of Post-it Note pads.
Step 2: A section of a room should be dedicated as to an editor or revised writing area. A second section may be created so that a variety of journal prompts may be created and posted allowing students to choose a writing prompt of their choice. After they have used the prompt, they record their name on it to avoid students using the same prompt.
Step 3: After students have responded to a journal prompt. Students peer evaluate each other's responses. Students must record a minimum number of sugestions that would help the writer to clarify their responses. Since each student is assigned their own color, teachers may easily track student particpation.
Step 4: After the editing process, students record their changes onto their own pads and make notations in the journals based upon peer/teacher feed back.
Step 5: Once the revision is drafted, students post their peer's feedback and their changes (which were made on the Post-it Note) onto the editor's board.
Step 6: Students are allowed to review the editor section and utilize the prior sugestions to help them on their 1st drafts in the future.
Afterwards:
Objective: Students demonstrate their understanding of the writing process through peer feedback, sugestions and comments. Students demonstrate their understanding of peer responses through their revision of their writing. Students particpation is validated through their posting of sugestions onto the board.
Supporting All Learners: All students will write based upon their own ability. Teachers' quickly assess students ability to provide feedback based upon students Post-it Note color. Students have other student examples posted to further enhance their understanding and practicing feedback through the posted examples. Through color coordination, teacher may have students work with different peers through a simple glance towards the student peer editing board. These activites allow the teacher to monitor class activites without calling out on any particular student. In addition, the visuals allow the teacher to spend more time working with anyone who is struggling since a quick glance provides quick feedback. This also helps visual learners through the use of boards and colors.
