Time line/Story order

Materials Needed: Post-it® Notes 1 1/2 x 2, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 2 x 2, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 4 x 4, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 4 x 6, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 5 x 8, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes 6 x 8, Post-it Note size varies depending on group size. Post-it Notes can be predone with words/phrases or done in groups in which case you will need pen/pencil, Post-it Notes can be placed on white/blackboards, papers, the teacher's choice.

Description:

3 choices-each can be adapted to different subjects and grade levels-individual work or group/whole class work
1. Put events (on Post-it® Notes) in order on a time line.
2. Put events in a story in order.
3. Put poem/song in order (like, Twas the Night Before Christmas)

Instructions:

Step 1: 1. Teacher can prepare Post-it Notes ahead of time or have students prepare Post-it Notes.

Step 2: 2. Students individually, in groups or as a whole class put the Post-it Notes in order of teacher given directions. a. time line dates b. in order of events c. characters in order of appearance d. song/poem lines in order e. etc.

Step 3: Review as a group/class.

Afterwards:

Objective: Order of: a. events in a story b. character appearance in a story c. lines in a poem/song d. chronological events

Lesson Extensions: Open to extention

Supporting All Learners: Yes-can easily be adapted to more/less Post-it Notes, prewritten/bilingual

Assignment/Home Connection: If activity is done on paper-student can take it home and use as a review with correct answers on the back. Student can take home and quiz/teach others in the household.
