Description:
Students use Post-it® Super Sticky Notes to build a timeline of their lives or the life of a relative.
Instructions:
Step 1: Start the lesson explaining how time-lines are a good way to see the major events in a given time period such as during a war or the course of somebody’s life.
Step 2: Model a timeline using each Post-it® Super Sticky notes to represent the stages of a child’s life. Have the students come to board and place the illustrated Post-it® Super Sticky Notes with the date of each event in the correct chronological order. Tell students that Timelines allows for an easier way to see the order in which things happened.
Step 3: Students will be making timelines of their own life. Each Post-it® Super Sticky Note will contain the start of their birth to the present. Students have to record the most important things or events in their life. (e. g. lost tooth, new sibling, etc).
Step 4: Have your students give a presentation on their time-line.
Afterwards:
Objective: Students will be able to see how timelines the major events in a given time period using a Timeline graphic organizer with Post-it® Notes.
Evaluate The Activity: This lesson plan will lead students into learning the importance of a timeline with Post-it® Super Sticky Notes and the opportunity to learn how timelines can be used in history and book reports.
Lesson Extensions: Have students make a time-line for a famous person in history using Post-it® Super Sticky notes. Students can be given an event in history or select a specific time period to write a report. A story or main character timeline with Post-it® Super Sticky Notes can be used to find what the most important events that happened in the text.
Supporting All Learners: Pair students together to make a Timeline. Have some of the Post-it® Super Sticky Notes already prepared with answers. Have students illustrate instead of writing the sequence of events on Post-it® Super Sticky Notes.
Assignment/Home Connection: Student can make a timeline of a parent or guardian to show important things that happened in their life.
